IMUN Turin: ICE students at Model United Nations

From 13 to 15 January, students from classes 1ICE and 2ICE participated in an evento organized by IMUN (Italian Model United Nations) at the Metropolitan City Auditorium. The day gave the students the opportunity to step into the shoes of United Nations delegates, representing several countries in a simulation of a real UN conference.

The theme of this edition was 'Recognising and Protecting Linguistic Diversity', which was discussed within a UNESCO committee.

The students followed a detailed process:

    • Research on the assigned country: each delegate delved into the political, social and cultural characteristics of their country.
    • Analysis of the position on the topic: each delegate studied the country's point of view on linguistic diversity.
    • Proposing solutions: the participants drafted a position paper, which was presented in the form of a speech in front of the committee.

During the conference, delegates debated, discussing different solutions to address the assigned topic.

    Countries represented
The students represented the following countries:

    • 1ICE: Eswatini, Myanmar, Netherlands, Mozambique, Suriname, Nauru, Tajikistan, Sweden, Spain, Cambodia, Mauritius, Australia.
    • 2ICE: Samoa, Belgium, San Marino, Marshall Islands, Mauritania, São Tomé and Príncipe.

    Acknowledgements

At the end of the event, all participants received a certificate of participation. In addition, students Margherita P. and Marie L. from 2ICE stood out for their active contribution to the debate and received an honourable mention.

    Towards new experiences

After the success at IMUN Turin, the students are preparing to attend an even bigger conference in March, to be held in Frankfurt, Germany.

Congratulations to all participants for their commitment and professionalism during this unique experience!
