Exploring the World of Bees: 5th grade visiting the Villa Ala Farm

On a lovely spring day, the young students of the 5-year old class of the Vittoria Torino School participated in an educational day at the Villa Ala farm, located in picturesque Rivalba. This experience fits perfectly into the school's curriculum, which places great emphasis on experiential learning and environmental education.

The day began with an introduction to the role of the beekeeper. Villa Ala experts welcomed the children, showing them the tools used in the care of bees and explaining the significance of their work. It was an effective way to introduce the children to the complexity of the natural world and the importance of conservation.

Continuing with the theme of environmental education, the children learned about the basic characteristics and ecological role of bees. Through an educational beehive, with life-sized photos, they explored the social structure of a beehive, identifying the queen, drones and larvae.

Direct observation in the honey extraction workshop allowed the children to see how honey is extracted and prepared for consumption, giving them a tangible insight into the process that brings honey from the hives to our tables.

After a picnic lunch in a dedicated picnic area, the children had the opportunity to play freely, exploring their natural surroundings. This free time was followed by an educational tasting of various types of honey, allowing them to appreciate the diversity and richness of this natural product.

The highlight of the day was a painting workshop, during which the children were able to creatively express what they had learnt, painting beehives and bees in an explosion of colours and creativity.

This visit was not only an enrichment of Vittoria Torino School's monthly theme on insects and spring, but also an opportunity to instil in the children a deep respect for the environment.
