The 2ABCD class discovering Europe: EC2 Camp Ventotene

At the heart of our educational efforts to form aware and active citizens, the 2ABCD class of Liceo Europeo Vittoria recently participated in a unique learning experience: EC2 Camp Ventotene, organised by United Network. This event proved to be not only a simulation of the Council of the European Union but a real immersion into the intricacies of European politics and cooperation.

Phase One: training

Our adventure began with an intensive training phase. The students, guided by United Network's teaching staff, explored the structure, values and mission of the European institutions. During this phase, the students delved into the topics they would later discuss, such as development cooperation, environmental policy and public health, cornerstones of the European agenda.

Phase two: online simulation

Following three days of online simulations, our students transformed themselves into representatives of the EU member states, debating and negotiating fervently. They gave speeches, acted as mediators and drafted final recommendations.

Phase three: experience in Ventotene

The most significant moments were experienced during the simulation in Ventotene, where the most outstanding students had the opportunity to continue their discussions in a scenario of extraordinary historical and symbolic relevance. Ventotene, with its heritage linked to the ideals of European unity, provided the ideal stage for reflecting on the future of Europe and the role that young people can play in its construction.

Impact and reflections

Participation in EC2 Camp Ventotene had a significant impact on our students' personal and academic development. They gained a deeper understanding of international dynamics and the importance of transnational collaboration to address common challenges. This experience also strengthened their sense of European belonging and awareness of the opportunities the Union offers to its citizens.
