Standing ovation for President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella by the 800 high school students from all over Italy, invited to Rome on 15 November, in the splendid setting of the Sala delle Fontane at EUR.
The event was organised on the occasion of the opening of the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the Osservatorio Permanente Giovani- Editori, an international organisation that works to spread the culture of newspaper reading, civic education and active citizenship among young people.
Students and teachers from the schools that joined the project from the beginning were invited. Among them are three professors and some thirty students from the Vittoria High School, who, in addition to the excitement of experiencing an extraordinary occasion, will take home pride in the recognition of their commitment to study and behaviour.
The president, responding with passion and enthusiasm to the questions of the students in the hall, gave a splendid Civic Education lesson on the function and use of technology and AI , the flight of young people abroad and their very high abstention from voting, the role of the President of the Republic as arbiter and the relationship between the powers of the State .
At the end, the Head of State praised the work of the teachers and urged young people to participate in politics and develop civic awareness and a critical spirit, emphasising that information is an essential commodity.
Letter from the students
Dear Professors,
We would like to thank you sincerely for the wonderful trip you organised for us. It was an unforgettable experience, full of exciting moments and learning opportunities, such as the conference with the President of the Republic. It was an unrepeatable opportunity for us, which few people have the honour to experience in their lifetime, and for this we are deeply grateful.
Thank you again for everything you did, but above all, we thank you for the serenity and tranquillity you conveyed to us during our very special 'Roman' trip. This trip will remain in our hearts forever!
With gratitude,
Falzone, Amato, Banchieri, Rosso, Camerlengo
