Giulio P. at the UN: a young speaker for a future of cooperation

We are proud to share some extraordinary news: Giulio P., a 1st year IB student and part of our Excellence Programme, has been selected to give an official speech at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, during the GCMUN New York (Global Citizens Model United Nations) experience.

As part of this prestigious UN simulation, Giulio represented Ethiopia in the ECOSOC committee, working with other young delegates on crucial issues such as the protection of human rights in conflict zones. At the end of the conference, he was chosen to take the stage at the UN and share his vision on a universal theme: collaboration between peoples.

"It was a very exciting and unique experience, I was very tense at the beginning but eventually I managed to calm down and deliver the speech fluently" - Giulio P.

Giulio P.’s speech:

Honourable Board of Directors and distinguished guests,

It’s such an honour for me to have the opportunity to speak in this venue.

I was the representative of Ethiopia and I was part of the ECOSOC Committee that discussed how to grant human rights in conflict zones.

I deeply enjoyed every segment of this wonderful experience, because GCMUN was not just a conference, but a transformative event that has the power to shape the young minds of our generation.

This project encourages teenagers to break free from their limits, stepping into the shoes of diplomats.
They collaborate together to solve the most important global issues, such as climate change, poverty, or the preservation of international security.

And most importantly, GCMUN has given us a great sense of responsibility:
the responsibility to be informed,
the responsibility to communicate effectively,
and to work towards a world that thrives on collaboration, not division.

In today’s highly interconnected world, no single nation or individual has the capacity to solve issues alone.
The increasingly complex challenges we face — from environmental crises to conflicts and geopolitical tensions — require strong cooperation across borders and ideologies in order to be correctly addressed.

GCMUN has shown me and everyone else this crucial truth, teaching us that only through dialogue and mutual respect are humans able to find sustainable solutions.

It taught me that each of us has interesting and innovative ideas — thoughts that deserve to be heard and taken into consideration, because they might change your life for the better.

As we approach our future filled with uncertainty, it becomes increasingly clear that we cannot stand alone in the face of problems.
Humans must rely on the most powerful tool — the one capable of carrying civilization forward: unity.

And if we stay united, then the actions of today will be the change of tomorrow.

Thank you very much.
